Boxer Vijender ensures another medal for India at Bejing 2008 Olympics

Vijender Kumar ensured another medal for India at the Beijing Olympics when he beat Carlos Gongora of Ecuador in the quarter-finals of the 75 kg category in the boxing competition on Wednesday.

The victory assures him and India at least a bronze medal.

Earlier in the evening, just as the country celebrated wrestler Sushil Kumar's bronze medal victory in men's 66kg freestyle event, another Indian pugilist, Jitender Kumar, went down fighting to Russia's Georgy Balakshin in the quarter-finals of the 51 kg category.

Rewards pour in for Sushil Kumar after a medal at Bejing olympics

Rewards started pouring in for Sushil Kumar who won bronze medal in Beijing Olympics on Wednesday with the Railway Ministry and Delhi Government announcing cash awards to a total of Rs 1.05 crore for the wrestler.

Minutes after Kumar clinched the bronze medal beating Kazakhstan's Leonid Spiridonov in men's freestyle wrestling 66kg class, Railway Minister announced that the grappler will be promoted as a Assistant Commercial Manager from ticketing inspector.
