Voice of India winner Ishmeet Singh dead

New Delhi, July 29: Voice of India winner Ishmeet Singh has died in Maldives of drowning on Tuesday morning.

Ishmeet, who reportedly had aqua phobia, had gone for swimming in the swimming pool of a resort he was staying at. It is feared that he went too deep into water. The authorities rushed him to the hospital but he could not be saved.

Hailing from Ludhiana, Ishmeet had won the Star Plus show in 2007. He had gone to Maldives this morning.

Singer Abhijeet, who had single handedly supported Ishmeet on Voice of India, broke into tears while talking to Zee News and said he was not in a position to talk. Abhijeet also said that he was headed towards Ishmeet’s home in Ludhiana. He further added, “He was like a son to me and this loss is more than what I can put to words”.

Playback singer, Alka Yagnik, who had judged the Star Plus show which Ishmeet went on to win, expressed her dismay at the news. Alka told Zee News, “Ishmeet was a very soft spoken lad. His personality was as simple and sweet as his voice. I had a long association with him during the show and had grown fond of him. This particular news has shocked me to the hilt, I can only express my condolences and all my prayers are with his family.”

Nightingale, Lata Mangeshkar and Punjabi singer Daler Mehndi also expressed grief at the news and said it was a great loss to the music industry, as Ishmeet had great potential to contribute to the world of music.
